Chakra
Meditation
If you are exploring meditation as a means to
achieve personal and emotional healing, chakra meditation is one of the most powerful methods you can use. Although chakra meditation requires a bit more knowledge than
other, simpler types of meditation, the benefits that you can enjoy by learning and practicing it can be
profound.
The art of chakra meditation involves focusing your
mind on specific energy centers within your body. Each energy center corresponds with a different aspect of your
life, so you can target a specific chakra depending on the problem you want to solve or the goal you want to
achieve.

Any meditation for
beginners must include a basic understanding of the seven main
chakras. Below is an overview of the seven chakras, along with a brief explanation of
how to use
meditation to activate and clear each
chakra:
Root Chakra
(Muladhara) The root chakra is located at the
base of the spine, and the effects our base needs and desires. If you struggle with addictions or destructive
habits, you should focus on this chakra. Imagine a glowing red light near the base of your spine, and focus
your intent on increasing the energy in this area. It is also helpful to hold a Ruby or Garnet while using
chakra meditation to target the root chakra.
Sexual Chakra
(Svadhisthana) The sexual chakra is located
in the lower abdomen, and it is associated with physical feelings, particularly those of love, sexuality, and
passion. You can activate and clear this chakra by focusing your attention on a bright orange light in
your abdomen. Surrounding yourself with amber stones will help you focus on in the navel chakra.
Navel Chakra
(Manipura) If you want to focus on personal
transformation, direct your energy to the navel chakra, which is located just below your chest.
Imagining a pure yellow light in this area will help you deal with issues associated with self-control,
discipline, and ego. Use amber or gold to intensify this chakra meditation.
Heart
Chakra (Anahata) The heart chakra is
the center of compassion, understanding, and forgiveness. You can use chakra meditation to focus on a green
light glowing in this area -- this will help you clear away feelings of resentment, guilt, and anger.
Emeralds and malachite stones are good choices for targeting the heart chakra.
Throat Chakra
(Vishuddha) If you have difficulty
communicating with others, use chakra meditation to target the throat chakra, which is located just below
your chin. This can help you with issues of truth and knowledge, and can help you communicate with clarity,
empathy, and wisdom. The throat chakra is associated with the color blue, and you can use turquoise or blue
topaz to help clear the energy in this area.
Third Eye Chakra
(Ajna) The brow chakra is located in the center of
your forehead, just above your eyes. In Buddhist tradition, this is referred to as the “third eye”, and is
the center of spiritual knowledge and understanding. If you are
dealing with spiritual issues or concerns, use chakra meditation to imagine an indigo flight emanating from
the center of your forehead. Lapis lazuli and sapphires are excellent choices for activating the brow
chakra.
Crown Chakra
(Sahasrara) Finally, the crown chakra,
located at the top of your head, is associated with self-actualization, inspiration, divine wisdom, and the higher
self. Focusing on the chakra will help you increase your sense of awareness and purpose, and develop a connection
with universal wisdom. It is represented by the color violet, and is associated with amethyst and quartz crystal
stones.
