Spiritual Meditation
For some people, the process of spiritual
meditation is a purely secular one - the focus on harnessing the power of their own minds to reduces stress,
improve focus, and achieve goals. Taking a secular approach to meditation can certainly produce profound
benefits.
However, many people who begin a meditation routine prefer to integrate spiritual
aspects into their meditation practices. For these people, spiritual meditation is a wonderful way to strengthen
the connection between the human mind and divine wisdom.
A common misconception is that many religious and spiritual beliefs are not
compatible with meditation practice. Most western religions, in particular, are often seen as being entirely
separate from meditation. Fortunately, this is not the case - any set of spiritual or religious beliefs can easy be
integrated into spiritual meditation.

Because you already derive unique strength form your belief system, it can serve
to greatly enhance the benefits you receive from your meditation practice.
Regardless of your belief system, the focus of spiritual mediation is to allow
you to open up to the divine energy that is available to each and every human being. Although this may sound
difficult, there are methods you can use to quickly and easily benefit from the divine energy
within you.
Spiritual Meditation Techniques
One of the most common techniques used in spiritual meditation is the use of
breathing meditation. To use this technique, simply assume a comfortable
meditation position (many practitioners prefer to use the lotus position, in which the legs are crossed and the
back is held straight). Then, close your eyes, and slowly breathe in as deeply as possible.
As you inhale, visualize divine energy flowing toward you and permeating your
physical body. Hold the breath for a few seconds, and then exhale slowly, imagine all of your stress and mundane
thoughts flow away from you with your breath. Repeating this meditation
technique will allow you to open up to divine energy, and greatly improve the benefits you receive from
your meditation practice.
Reciting a chant or prayer during spiritual meditation will also serve to
strengthen your connection to the divine. The rhythmic, repetitive nature of short chants and prayers allows your
mind to drift into a meditative state, and improves your ability to tap into divine wisdom.
Spiritual Meditation Master
Depending on your religious and spiritual
beliefs, you may find it beneficial to call upon a master, saint, divine teacher, or guru to assist you in
achieving your spiritual meditation goals. Doing this is similar to prayer, making it compatible with many belief
systems. Visualize the master or teacher appearing in your mind, and guiding you through your
meditation.
You may receive guidance in the form of visual imagery, in which events and
lessons unfold in your mind, almost as if you were watching a movie. Many people find that, by using this
technique, the quality of their meditation time is greatly enhanced.
Integrating your spiritual beliefs into your meditation routine can produce
benefits that are quite profound. By accessing divine wisdom through spiritual meditation, you can uniquely tailor
your meditation experiences to obtain exactly what you need. Even meditation for beginners can produce these profound spiritual
experiences.
